Health Access Program Manager
Karla graduated from UC Berkeley with a B.A. in Molecular and Cell Biology with a concentration in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and a minor in Global Poverty and Practice. She began volunteering at SLHP in February 2015 as a community health worker. Having been born in Mexico City and been undocumented until January 2018, when she obtained legal permanent residence, Karla understands the difficulty of accessing quality, culturally responsive care in immigrant communities. As the Health Access Program Manager, she hopes to lead the organization toward further empowerment and self-advocacy of community members. She is very excited about the whole person care model that SLHP employs and hopes to take what she will learn with her in her future career as a primary care physician for Latinx communities.
