Martha Martinez
Board Member
Martha Martinez is an enrolled member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe of South Dakota. She was born and raised in Oakland, CA, and is the first generation urban born in her family. Her family came to California in 1956 on relocation, a government sponsored program established to assimilate American Indians into the general population.
She holds BA in Human Development with a Child Development Concentration and MPA with an Organizational Change Concentration from California State University East Bay.
In her role at Native American Health Center, she drafted traditional health policies and implemented programming utilizing culturally and spiritually based approaches to build and strengthen healthy individuals, families, and communities.
In her work she has led several community-based organizations in navigating transitions to build and implement culturally responsive infrastructure while holding the organization’s mission, values and goals intact.
